Stevia Pura

No harmful effects to health have ever been reported as a result of using Stevia, unlike aspartame, which is the number one source of consumer complaints about foods that contain this substance.
In order to underline the quality of Stevia, we list some of the most important studies as follows:
- 1966, Faculty of Medicine, U.N.A. (Paraguay), Professor Ovidio Miguel reports that Stevia can be used in anti-diabetic treatment.
- 1969, Prof. Derek H.R. (Nobel Prizewinner for Chemistry) directs a group of scientists at the London Imperial College of Science and Technology in the study of the interesting aspects of the plant.
- 1986, Brazilian researchers from the University of Maringa in Sao Paulo evaluate the paper concerning Stevia in the blood sugar.
Legislation and the Current Situation
At the 63rd meeting of JECFA* and the FAO**, held on June 8 through 17, 2004, the position of these products was reconsidered and a ADI was resolved.
The FDA has reconsidered its position on the approval of the product as a food supplement and not solely as a dietetic product.
Current situation
Currently, Stevia has already penetrated the Japanese sweetener market by 50%.
Already since 1991, we know that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Stevia as a dietetic supplement. As a result of this, in 2002, the market for Stevia in the US experienced an impressive growth in consumption of more than 40%.
